ADAMSDOWN PRIMARY

Overview

Adamsdown Primary School is described as a "warm and welcoming place" where a diverse community thrives, with pupils who are "ambitious, respectful and very happy." The inspection highlights the school’s "highly effective approach to language acquisition" and its central commitment to well-being, particularly for pupils from conflict-affected backgrounds.

Strengths

• Pupils "make very good progress in most aspects of their learning" and develop a "sophisticated understanding of their progress."
• The school’s "School of Sanctuary status" and nurturing ethos ensure all pupils "feel safe and develop a strong sense of belonging."
• Staff are supported to "continuously develop their professional knowledge," contributing to the "continuous improvement and effective evaluation of the school’s work."
• The curriculum provides pupils with a "comprehensive understanding of equity, justice and empathy" through work on human rights and relationships.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must "improve standards in Welsh," as opportunities for pupils to use the language regularly are currently "limited."
• The school should "share the school’s effective practice more widely" to support other schools with curriculum reform, rather than limiting sharing to partner schools.

Safeguarding

The report states that the "strong partnership with parents and nurturing ethos of the school ensure that all pupils feel safe," with leaders committed to providing the support each pupil needs to access the curriculum, beginning with well-being and emotional support.
