Progress 8 (2023/24) measures student progress relative to similar starting ability — not raw results. A highly selective school can rank lower here if its intake was already very high-attaining, since there's less room to show added progress. Attainment 8 is the average grade across a pupil's best 8 GCSEs — raw exam results, not value-added. A-level average is DfE's points-per-entry score on the current (2017+) tariff — max 56 for A*, national average is around 33. This is not the same as the "% A*–B" figure often quoted by school-guide sites and league tables (e.g. Atom Learning/The Times' rankings), which is a percentage of top grades, not a points score — the two aren't comparable, even for the same school. Demand is first-choice preferences per place offered on the latest National Offer Day round — above ×1 means more first choices than places. Qualifying score is the published eligibility threshold where an LA publishes one — not comparable across LAs that use different test boards. Oxbridge and Russell Group % are of the 2019/20 leaver cohort sustaining a higher-education destination the following year — the last year the Department for Education published this breakdown before discontinuing it as an official accountability measure, so no more recent figure exists for any school. None of these is an official "best school" ranking; each is one lens among several.
