Overview

This report details a sustaining improvement inspection conducted in May 2019, which was significantly limited because teaching staff did not co-operate with inspectors due to industrial action. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to fully evaluate the quality of learning, teaching, or safeguarding arrangements, nor could it assess the school’s capacity for improvement. The report concludes that the ETI is unable to assure parents of the quality of education provided and designates the school as a high priority for future inspection with no further notice.

Strengths

• Pupils in years 6 and 7 report “very good opportunities to develop their leadership capabilities” through Eco- and School-Councils.
• Children are “confident to express a range of opinions and interests” in curricular and extra-curricular activities.
• Pupils reported enjoyment of sport, swimming, the arts, and reading, and expressed “pride in their school”.
• Year 6 pupils reported that they “feel safe in school” and know what to do if they have safety concerns.

Areas to improve

• The school must ensure parents are updated on recent amendments to the safeguarding policy, including revised names, roles, and responsibilities of the safeguarding team.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements reflect Department of Education guidance, and pupils reported feeling safe; however, the ETI was unable to fully evaluate the outworking of these arrangements due to the industrial action.
