Asby Endowed School

Overview

Asby Endowed School continues to be a good school, described as a "welcoming and inclusive" setting where pupils are happy and well cared for. The inspection confirms that staff know pupils well, fostering "warm relationships" that ensure children feel safe and behave well. Pupils achieve well and are "well prepared for the next stage in their education," benefiting from a broad curriculum and strong community links.

Strengths

• The school gives reading a "high priority," with an "effective and well-ordered phonics programme" ensuring most pupils become fluent readers.
• Staff adapt learning effectively for mixed-age classes and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), ensuring they "achieve well."
• Pupils enjoy a "broad and ambitious curriculum" enhanced by outdoor activities, school trips, and cultural experiences that develop their understanding of the world.
• Behaviour and attendance are good, creating a "calm and orderly place in which to learn" where pupils "give their best."
• Staff feel "well supported" regarding workload and well-being, while governors are "actively involved" and ambitious for the school’s growth.

Areas to improve

• In a small number of subjects, pupils struggle to recall previous learning, making it hard to build the intended body of knowledge.
• The school should develop further strategies to help pupils "remember and develop their learning over time" and retain key vocabulary.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
