Aughnacloy Primary School

Overview

This Sustaining Improvement Inspection was conducted during industrial action involving "action short of strike," which significantly limited the scope of evaluation. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate was unable to assess the quality of learning, teaching, or the school’s capacity for improvement. The report concludes that the ETI is "unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children."

Strengths

• The previous inspection in 2015 evaluated the school’s overall effectiveness as "good."
• The principal and all staff have remained in post since the last inspection.
• Year 6 pupils described a "very caring and supportive learning environment" and reported feeling "safe and secure."
• Children demonstrated an understanding of who to contact regarding safety concerns and contribute to school life through various councils.

Areas to improve

• The report states the ETI was "unable to evaluate" the quality of learning and teaching or the school’s self-evaluation processes due to non-cooperation.
• The school is designated as a "high priority for future inspection with no further notice" to reassess educational quality.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements "reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education," though the ETI was "unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements" due to the industrial action.
