Aya College (Educational Provision)

Overview

This progress monitoring inspection confirms that Aya College now meets all independent school standards previously found to be unmet. The school has successfully addressed earlier failings regarding curriculum ambition, subject sequencing, and leadership oversight. Inspectors concluded that the proprietor now ensures consistent compliance with regulatory requirements.

Strengths

• The curriculum includes an "appropriate range of subjects" with schemes of work that are "sequenced to build pupils’ knowledge" cumulatively.
• Provision for relationships and sex education (RSE) meets statutory requirements, with "age-appropriate information" and clear policies for parental consultation and withdrawal.
• Leaders have appointed "suitably qualified teaching staff" and provide "relevant induction training" and ongoing support for implementing the curriculum.
• The governing body demonstrates "appropriate knowledge and experience," regularly holding leaders to account and enlisting external advisers to check curriculum implementation.
• Facilities and resources are used effectively to support teaching, with methods chosen to help pupils "develop their knowledge and skills."

Areas to improve

• Some record-keeping for pre-employment checks is "not sharp," with minor errors found on the single central record, though these were rectified during the inspection.

Safeguarding

The report states that the school’s safeguarding arrangements, including the single central record of pre-employment checks and the availability of the safeguarding policy to parents, meet the required standards.
