While the overall effectiveness is rated Good, the report highlights specific inconsistencies in how staff implement assessment and communication strategies.

Strengths

• The curriculum is “broad and engaging,” broken into “small steps of progress” to allow pupils to learn at a suitable pace.

• The college site provides effective advice and guidance, ensuring students are “suitably prepared for their next steps.”

Areas to improve

• Assessment systems lack “clarity and precision,” with some targets failing to ensure the intended impact on pupil learning.
• The “total communication approach” is not fully realised, with some staff relying on adult-led support rather than fostering pupil independence.
• The systematic approach to early reading is not fully established, leading to some pupils learning “misconceptions modelled by staff.”
