Beaudesert Lower School

Overview

Beaudesert Lower School continues to be a good school, where staff maintain high expectations and a supportive ethos of ‘believe, learn and succeed’. Pupils are described as happy, safe, and resilient, with achievement improving particularly in reading. The school provides a calm environment for learning, supported by effective leadership and strong community engagement.

Strengths

• The curriculum is clearly planned with progressive knowledge and vocabulary, supported by subject leaders who share expertise with staff.
• Highly trained staff teach phonics and reading well, using regular checks to identify and support pupils who need extra help.
• Expert staff quickly identify the needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), providing personalised support and access to a nurture room.
• Staff manage behaviour effectively and recognise achievements weekly, contributing to a calm learning environment and improved attendance.
• Pupils benefit from a broad range of opportunities, including physical activity competitions, leadership roles, and ‘special days’ that extend their interests.

Areas to improve

• In a few subjects, teachers do not routinely check that pupils remember key knowledge, meaning misconceptions or gaps are not always addressed.
• Pupils do not revisit important knowledge regularly in these subjects, hindering their ability to build on prior learning for more complex ideas.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
