Belmont Park School

Overview

Belmont Park School is a special school where pupils benefit from a "caring and supportive culture" and staff who understand their individual needs. Although previous leadership changes caused disruption, the school now fosters optimism, with pupils enjoying their time at school and achieving qualifications for post-16 education.

Strengths

• Staff "get to know each of them individually" and skilfully support pupils who find it hard to manage their emotions.
• The school has "successfully raised the profile of reading," with a new library helping pupils become more confident readers.
• A "carefully designed careers programme" ensures pupils are well prepared for adult life, employment, or further education.
• The governing body provides "strong leadership" and is committed to raising pupils’ aspirations and addressing previous weaknesses.
• Behaviour is managed effectively, with a noted "reduction in exclusions" due to meticulous data analysis and specialist support.

Areas to improve

• The school must ensure the new curriculum is "implemented as intended" across all subjects, as it is not currently delivered consistently well.
• Teaching activities need to better account for the needs of pupils with SEND to prevent them from being hindered in their learning.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
