BISHOP GORE SCHOOL

Overview

Bishop Gore School is described as a “diverse and inclusive school” where pupil and staff well-being is central. Leaders are united in ensuring safety and success for all pupils, supported by strong relationships and a clear vision shared by staff.

Strengths

• There are “strong working relationships between teachers and pupils” which underpin effective teaching and learning.
• The curriculum “meets the needs of nearly all pupils” and reflects the school’s diversity, with good progress in implementing Curriculum for Wales.
• Teachers generally use appropriate methods, explaining concepts clearly and checking understanding before moving on.
• Staff work “collaboratively and enthusiastically” to improve practice, supported by professional learning opportunities.
• Pupils have numerous opportunities for extra-curricular activities, particularly within the performing arts.

Areas to improve

• Teaching must provide a “sufficiently high level of challenge for all pupils,” as low expectations or excessive support currently hinder independent learning in some areas.
• Self-evaluation needs refinement to “precisely identify any aspects of teaching and learning that need improvement,” ensuring improvements are swift.

Safeguarding

Leaders are “united in their determination to keep everyone safe.”
