Blagrave Nursery School

Overview

Children “love attending this nursery” and benefit from a “strong family ethos” where they feel “well cared for and... loved.” The school provides a “highly ambitious and comprehensive curriculum” that fosters exceptional personal development, with staff demonstrating “secure subject knowledge” in prime areas. However, inconsistencies in staff confidence across all curriculum areas mean some children do not achieve as well as they could in specific subjects.

Strengths

• Children’s personal development is “exceptional,” with a strong focus on resilience, independence, and understanding different faiths and cultures.
• Staff build “effective partnerships with parents,” who value the induction arrangements and describe staff as “helpful and kind.”
• The curriculum is “well planned and tailored to meet children’s interests,” with assessment used effectively to support children with additional needs.
• Leaders provide “effective challenge” and ensure staff receive adequate training and support for their well-being.

Areas to improve

• Staff subject knowledge is less secure in specific areas of learning, such as literacy and mathematics, compared to prime areas.
• The school must ensure staff knowledge is secure across all curriculum areas so children receive “the same effective challenge and support” everywhere.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
