Blisland Primary Academy

Overview

Blisland Primary Academy is described as a "harmonious place to learn" where staff hold high expectations and know pupils’ needs well. The report states that the school has turned around previous standards with effective trust support, resulting in a "highly effective curriculum" and strong progress in reading.

Strengths

• Staff "know each pupil’s needs and interests well," promoting positive attitudes and character development.
• The new behaviour policy is "consistently applied," creating "calm and purposeful" lessons where bullying is not an issue.
• Leaders give reading the "highest priority," ensuring pupils make "very strong progress" and enjoy stories.
• The early years provision gives children a "flying start," building a secure foundation for later learning.
• Pupils benefit from plentiful opportunities for personal development, feeling "valued, empowered and safe."

Areas to improve

• Curriculum planning in some subjects is "overly focused on specific elements of knowledge," meaning pupils are less secure in understanding the discipline of subjects like history or science.
• The school has not established effective ways to "design provision alongside parents" for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), leading to a lack of confidence among some parents.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
