Broadstone First School

Overview

Broadstone First School is described as a “special place to learn” where pupils feel safe and valued. The report highlights a culture of “teamwork and respect” with high expectations for achievement, noting that parents are “highly positive” about the provision.

Strengths

• Personal development is “exceptionally well” supported, with pupils building confidence, resilience, and understanding of difference.
• Reading is prioritised effectively; children develop a “love of reading” from Reception through carefully matched books and regular checks.
• The curriculum is “highly ambitious,” particularly in mathematics where pupils confidently apply knowledge to real-life situations.
• Staff morale is high, supported by “regular and personalised professional development” and a trust that provides “considered challenge and support.”
• The school understands the needs of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) “very well,” ensuring they access the same curriculum as their peers.

Areas to improve

• In some subjects, “not all key knowledge identified in the curriculum design is being fully taught,” preventing pupils from making connections to new learning.
• The trust must ensure the curriculum is delivered as expected across all subjects so pupils can “build their knowledge over time.”

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
