Brunswick School

Overview

Brunswick School continues to be a good school, providing a "warm and happy environment" where pupils are valued. Leaders maintain high aspirations, ensuring that children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, thrive through positive relationships and an inclusive vision.

Strengths

• Pupils enjoy "positive and nurturing relationships" with staff and feel confident to raise concerns, contributing to a safe atmosphere where bullying is addressed swiftly.
• Leaders have embedded an "ambitious suite of curriculums," particularly in phonics and mathematics, helping pupils achieve well.
• The early years curriculum is "well-designed," prioritising communication and language skills to prepare children for Year 1.
• Staff effectively identify additional needs and use expertise from other agencies to ensure pupils with SEND access the curriculum alongside classmates.
• Governors "successfully hold leaders to account," and staff feel valued and supported in their roles.

Areas to improve

• In a minority of subjects, curriculum thinking is not finalised, meaning teachers are not clear enough about key knowledge, leading to activities that lack necessary depth.
• Some pupils have irregular attendance, causing them to miss important learning and develop gaps in their knowledge and understanding.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with leaders creating a strong culture where staff are trained to identify risks and respond quickly to concerns.
