Brynmenyn Primary

Overview

Brynmenyn Primary is described as a “happy, inclusive school” that serves as a “calm haven where pupils blossom.” The inspection highlights exemplary behaviour and strong oracy skills, though it notes that Welsh language proficiency and independent learning opportunities require further development.

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate “exemplary” behaviour and interact sensitively with one another.
• Students make “significant progress” in speaking and listening, resulting in “excellent oracy skills” by Year 6.
• Pupils have a “strong voice” in the school, positively influencing school life through various committees.
• Staff maintain “positive relationships” with pupils, fostering positive attitudes towards learning.
• The headteacher provides “strong leadership” supported by an effective senior team.

Areas to improve

• Monitoring and evaluation strategies must focus more sharply on improving provision and learning standards.
• The school should provide more opportunities for pupils to take responsibility for their own learning and become independent learners.
• Pupils’ Welsh speaking skills need to be improved.

Safeguarding

Leaders and staff “care well for all pupils,” contributing to a supportive community feel through effective links with parents and carers.
