Bushfield Road Infant School

Overview

The report describes a school where pupils are "happy and well cared for" within a "welcoming and nurturing environment." While behaviour and personal development are rated as good, the quality of education and leadership require improvement due to inconsistencies in curriculum delivery and gaps in pupil knowledge.

Strengths

• Pupils are "kind and polite," helping each other and understanding friendship.
• The school "promotes a love of reading," with effective phonics teaching and support for pupils to become "confident and fluent readers."
• Staff adapt learning well for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, enabling them to "learn alongside their peers."
• Pupils benefit from opportunities supporting personal development, including visits to places of worship and after-school clubs.

Areas to improve

• The school must address "gaps in older pupils’ knowledge" caused by weaknesses in the previous curriculum to prepare them for future learning.
• Leaders should strengthen work to improve attendance, as some pupils "do not attend school often enough," missing important learning.
• The school needs to ensure greater consistency in delivering the revised curriculum and improve the precision of checks on pupil learning.
• Early years provision must better support children to "build solid foundations" for key stage 1.
• Safeguarding record-keeping must be made more thorough to clearly document how concerns were resolved.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, though some records are not robust enough as they do not always detail how concerns were resolved or the outcomes reached.
