Caldervale High School

Overview

The inspection team found that staff and young people share "positive relationships," which helps motivate learners. However, the report identifies weaknesses in leadership and wellbeing, noting the school requires "additional support and more time to make necessary improvements." A further inspection will occur within six months to monitor progress.

Strengths

• "Positive relationships between staff and young people in the classroom" motivate learners.
• An "effective transition programme" supports young people’s sense of belonging.
• There is an "increase in the numbers of young people obtaining literacy and numeracy qualifications."
• Staff have positively impacted "increasing presentation levels in the senior phase."

Areas to improve

• Senior leaders should "improve strategic leadership at all levels across the school."
• Teachers should "improve the consistency and quality of learners' experiences."
• Staff must ensure courses are "carefully planned and designed to meet the needs of all learners."
• Staff should "develop young people’s understanding of wellbeing and its relevance to their lives."
• Staff should "raise attainment for all young people," including targeting gaps in knowledge.

Safeguarding

The report evaluates the quality indicator "Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion" as "weak" and requires staff to better develop young people’s understanding of wellbeing.
