Cann Bridge School

Overview

Cann Bridge School is described as "improving rapidly," with pupils benefiting from "greater structure and ambition in their learning." While expectations are rising and pupils enjoy supportive relationships, the report notes that "there is more to do before the curriculum supports every pupil to maximise their potential."

Strengths

• Pupils develop confidence through "patience and understanding" and maintain "supportive relationships with staff."
• The school offers a "wide range of opportunities to prepare pupils for their adult lives," including real-life work experience and physical challenges.
• Leaders have overseen "rapid improvement" with a "knowledgeable and experienced governing body" providing strong challenge.
• Personal development is nurtured through carefully adapted PSHE and enrichment activities like the 'Personal Development Club'.
• Behaviour is managed effectively, creating a "calm atmosphere" where staff work together to support pupils during heightened periods.

Areas to improve

• Teaching does not yet help pupils "embed and demonstrate new learning effectively," as some work fails to build on existing knowledge.
• The approach to assessment in early reading is "not well established," and pupils developing as writers lack a "determined approach to working through individual difficulties."
• Staff do not give pupils "sufficient opportunity to apply and practise new learning," sometimes preventing independent demonstration of skills.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
