Cantref Primary

Overview

Cantref Primary is described as an inclusive and welcoming community where pupils exhibit exemplary behaviour and thoroughly enjoy their time at school. The report highlights strong, mutually respectful relationships between staff and pupils, which successfully enhance learning and well-being. However, the inspection notes that the school’s approach to the Curriculum for Wales lacks clarity and that feedback mechanisms require strengthening to support pupil improvement.

Strengths

• Pupils enter classrooms with "gusto" and are "articulate and confident speakers" who engage well in their work.
• "Vibrant teaching" and engaging activities enable effective progress in literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.
• Staff effectively use indoor and outdoor environments, including school grounds, to provide "innovative experiences" in authentic contexts.
• Strong leadership from the headteacher, supported by a senior team and governors, secures a clear vision for improving outcomes.
• An extensive range of extra-curricular activities successfully develops life skills and inspires pupils to take up new interests.

Areas to improve

• The whole-school approach to meeting the requirements of the Curriculum for Wales lacks clarity and must build "systematically and coherently".
• Teachers’ feedback does not always provide opportunities for pupils to reflect on their work and make improvements.

Safeguarding

The report states that staff "nurture and provide effective support and guidance for pupils in all aspects of school life," contributing to a safe and caring environment.
