Carr Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) states it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided.” The report notes the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• A group of older pupils spoke “positively about their experiences of school life,” including opportunities to contribute to decision-making.
• Pupils reported that they “feel safe and are aware of what to do if they have any concerns about their well-being.”
• The school development plan was devised through “consultation with a number of key stakeholders.”
• Safeguarding arrangements were found to “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education.”

Areas to improve

• The senior leadership team must make “more meaningful use of the analysis of the available data to inform future priorities.”
• Stakeholders must plan for the “sustainability of the school provision and school budget” to address current and future needs.
• The school needs to carry out a risk assessment to address “limited external lighting conditions in the school grounds and in the school car park.”

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” though the ETI was unable to fully evaluate their outworking due to the industrial action.
