Central Community Nursery School

Overview

The inspection concludes that the school "requires special measures" because it is "failing to provide an acceptable standard of education" and leaders are "not demonstrating the capacity to secure the necessary improvement." Safeguarding standards are "not met," placing children at "significant risk of harm" due to a lack of "open and positive culture" and ineffective systems.

Strengths

• "Warm and supportive relationships" exist between staff, children, and parents, particularly for those with special educational needs.
• Acting leaders have begun to "sharpen their curricular thinking" and identify "important words" for children to learn.
• Staff provide "suitable pastoral support" and teach children about health, safety, and "fundamental British values."
• Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities now "engage with a richer curriculum" and learn alongside peers.

Areas to improve

• Leaders must develop knowledge of "statutory responsibilities," particularly regarding safeguarding, attendance, and behaviour recording.
• The school needs a "consistent approach to managing behaviour" and higher expectations for attendance to ensure all children benefit from learning.
• Leaders must ensure the curriculum is well-structured and that barriers for vulnerable children are identified to resolve gaps in learning.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding standards are "not met," noting that leaders have "not ensured that there is an open and positive culture around safeguarding," which "puts children at significant risk of harm."
