Chaigeley School

Overview

Chaigeley School continues to be a good school where pupils flourish due to staff’s detailed knowledge and strong, caring relationships. The school is committed to supporting every pupil to achieve their best, with staff highly skilled at adapting the curriculum to meet individual needs.

Strengths

• Staff have developed "strong, caring relationships" with pupils, helping them feel "valued and listened to" and consequently "happy and safe".
• The school has designed an "ambitious curriculum" to meet pupils’ social, emotional and mental health needs, with effective ways of collating information to adapt timetables.
• Pupils enjoy a wide range of enrichment activities, including outdoor learning, sports tournaments, rock climbing, and trips to other countries, which "nurture and encourage their interests and abilities".
• Reading is prioritised with an "effective phonics programme", and staff swiftly identify and support pupils with gaps in their reading knowledge.
• Relationships between staff and pupils are "respectful and purposeful", with a marked improvement in conduct due to clear routines and consistent expectations.

Areas to improve

• In a small number of subjects, the school has not considered precisely enough what pupils should learn and by when, hindering pupils from learning all they could.
• The school should clarify the subject-specific knowledge and vocabulary pupils should learn in these subjects and the order in which this should be taught.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
