Chalkwell Hall Infant School

Overview

Chalkwell Hall Infant School continues to be a good school, described as a happy place where pupils enjoy attending and demonstrate the school’s ‘REACH’ values. Leaders have designed an ambitious curriculum that logically sequences knowledge, preparing children well for their learning in key stage 1.

Strengths

• Pupils are enthusiastic about their lessons and speak confidently about historical events and the impact of significant people.
• Early years staff use rich vocabulary and stories to develop language skills, helping children blend sounds accurately to read new words.
• Clear systems ensure pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are identified and supported effectively by staff.
• Bullying is very rare, and pupils behave well, showing care for one another and respect for differences.
• Governors hold leaders to account for the quality of education and support staff to manage their workload.

Areas to improve

• There is variation in the quality of curriculum implementation across classes, meaning pupils do not always secure as deep an understanding as leaders expect. Leaders must provide consistent support and training to ensure pupils achieve a deep understanding across all subjects.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with leaders completing required checks, providing staff training to identify risks, and ensuring concerns are reported and followed up timely.
