Chertsey Nursery School

Overview

Chertsey Nursery School continues to be a good school, providing a happy and secure environment where children are "expertly supported by kind and caring staff." The school fosters confidence through "exciting opportunities for play and exploration" and maintains high ambitions for all pupils, including those with special educational needs or disabilities.

Strengths

• Staff build strong relationships with children, knowing them well and anticipating needs to prevent them from becoming "tired or overwhelmed."
• The curriculum is "carefully crafted" to build knowledge and skills, with a "sharp focus on communication and language" woven throughout experiences.
• Children with special educational needs or disabilities receive timely support, with parents noting development "beyond anything we thought he could achieve."
• The school promotes inclusivity, helping children "celebrate all the different languages they can speak" and ensuring everyone is "welcomed and included."
• Staff feel well supported by leaders, with workloads adapted to maintain their focus on working with children.

Areas to improve

• Ensure a consistent focus on developing communication and language across all activities, as opportunities are sometimes missed when staff focus on the activity rather than the learning.
• Support staff in clarifying the sequence of development across the wider curriculum to build more successfully on what children already know and can do.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
