Overview: Church Eaton Primary School requires improvement in the overall effectiveness and the quality of education. However, the school excels in behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision.

Strengths:

• Pupils are friendly, cheerful, and well-mannered, and they appreciate the support they get from staff.
• Staff look after and care for pupils well, and there is a real community feeling in the school.

• The school has successfully cultivated a love of reading by introducing pupils to a range of suitable texts.
• Staff are well-trained to deliver the phonics programme consistently well.

Areas to improve:

• The curriculum is not fully developed or implemented as intended in a number of subjects, leading to gaps in pupils' knowledge and vocabulary.
• The curriculum for teaching mathematics has been revised, but there is not enough detail of what pupils are expected to know and remember, resulting in gaps in pupils' knowledge, especially of number facts.
• The school does not ensure that pupils build subject-specific vocabulary over time, leading to pupils struggling to talk about their learning in detail.
