Church Hill Infant School

Overview

Church Hill Infant School continues to be a good school, described as "welcoming and inclusive" with a strong sense of community. Pupils enjoy attending, feel safe, and benefit from a curriculum that promotes spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development through diverse experiences and trips.

Strengths

• The school is "ambitious for all pupils," including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, using adaptations like pre-teaching to ensure access to the curriculum.
• Reading is a clear priority, with a "clear strategy and approach to the teaching of early reading" and well-resourced classrooms that encourage sharing books.
• Behaviour is "generally calm and well managed," with bullying being rare and pupils confident that adults will resolve issues.
• Staff report high levels of support for workload and well-being, resulting in minimal turnover and a committed workforce.
• The board of trustees provides the "right balance of support and challenge," ensuring robust systems are in place.

Areas to improve

• Teaching of reading is not always "precise," meaning some pupils struggle to blend sounds; staff must ensure consistent and effective teaching methods.
• In a small number of subjects, key knowledge is not taught precisely enough, leading to some pupils retaining misconceptions; adults need to closely check understanding.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
