Clandeboye Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was “unable to assure... of the quality of education being provided” and could not evaluate most aspects of the school’s performance. The report states the school is a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• A group of Year 6 children reported their “enjoyment of learning” and opportunities for extra-curricular activities.
• The same group stated they “feel safe and happy in school” and know who to contact regarding safety concerns.
• The school development plan is “informed by extensive consultation with children, staff, parents and governors.”
• Safeguarding arrangements were found to “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education.”

Areas to improve

• The ETI was unable to evaluate outcomes for learners, quality of provision, or leadership and management due to the lack of cooperation.
• Health and safety issues require attention, including a “gap in the fence,” obscured driver visibility, and a need for a “tree specialist risk assessment.”
• Accommodation improvements are needed, specifically regarding toilet cubicle heights, a lack of “disability access or disability toilet facilities,” and missing visibility panels on doors.

Safeguarding

The report states that arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
