Coedylan Primary School

Overview

The report states that leadership has historically been ineffective, resulting in "poor teaching and learning experiences" that limit pupil progress. While interim leadership is beginning to have a "positive influence," it has not yet addressed "many long-standing deficiencies," particularly in curriculum delivery and assessment. Consequently, the school is placed in special measures, requiring intensive statutory follow-up.

Strengths

• Pupils demonstrate high standards of behaviour, showing "respect and consideration" and behaving "impeccably."
• Provision for personal and social development is "beneficial," helping pupils understand safety and values like "kindness and respect."
• Pupils in leadership roles take responsibilities seriously, contributing to improvements in playground equipment and parking.
• The interim leadership team has begun to "evaluate the school’s provision appropriately" to establish a realistic picture of strengths and weaknesses.

Areas to improve

• Leadership at all levels must be improved to address historical ineffectiveness and build a cohesive whole-school ethos.
• Teaching, assessment, and the curriculum require significant improvement to ensure the "progressive development of pupils’ skills."
• Provision for pupils with additional learning needs (ALN) must be enhanced to support this group more effectively.

Safeguarding

The report notes that "a safeguarding issue was brought to the attention of the school during the inspection," which requires immediate addressing as part of the recommendations.
