Cortamlet Primary School

Overview

This monitoring inspection was conducted during industrial action, with staff refusing to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to observe lessons or fully evaluate the quality of education. The report concludes that the ETI is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.”

Strengths

• The school prioritises enabling all children to achieve their potential, using data effectively to identify “potential underachievement.”
• “Appropriate interventions are being put in place to support individual and groups of children.”
• Writing provision is “developing well across the school,” improving the quality and breadth of learning experiences.
• Children are making progress across writing genres and achieving “better standards in this aspect of their literacy.”
• Action plans are monitored closely, with evidence indicating improvement in literacy provision.

Areas to improve

• The employing authority, governors, and staff must plan for and manage issues related to the “sustainability of the school provision and school budget.”
• These plans must address the “current and future needs of the children and the staff,” particularly given the current enrolment of 99 children.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements are “satisfactory” and reflect departmental guidance, though the ETI was unable to fully evaluate their outworking due to the industrial action.
