Craigavon Integrated College

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning the ETI was “unable to assure... the quality of education being provided.” Consequently, no performance levels were assigned for outcomes, provision, or leadership. The report highlights that examination results “require urgent improvement” and notes “limited confidence” in governance, while acknowledging a positive school ethos.

Strengths

• Pupils appreciate the “inclusive and welcoming environment” and feel safe.
• The school council provides opportunities for pupils to “develop their leadership skills.”
• Pupils are “confident and articulate” and respectful of each other.
• Staff support the school’s work, and governors show a “strong commitment to pupil welfare.”
• Strategic management of staff attendance has resulted in “substantive saving.”

Areas to improve

• Outcomes in public examinations at Key Stage 4 “require urgent improvement,” with attainment significantly below the Northern Ireland average.
• The curriculum and examination entry policy require review as a “high strategic priority” to better suit pupil abilities and local economy needs.
• Governors need access to a “wider range of first-hand evidence” to provide appropriate challenge and support rigorous monitoring of pupil outcomes.

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” though full evaluation was prevented by industrial action.
