Check the area around this school
47th of 108 primary schools in Westmorland and Furness we can score, 121 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Narrow the comparison to the 4,240 schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds — a tougher field — and it places 3.1/10 among them, against 4.4/10 nationally. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.

What Ofsted said about Dalton St Mary's CofE Primary School
Overview
Dalton St Mary’s CofE Primary School continues to be a good school, providing an ambitious curriculum that meets the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Pupils settle happily into well-established routines, feel safe, and work hard to live up to the high expectations staff have of their achievement and behaviour.
Strengths
- Leaders have designed an "ambitious curriculum" where "key knowledge... is delivered in well-ordered steps," allowing pupils to make links between subjects.
- Pupils with SEND are supported successfully by skilled staff and "efficient technological equipment," enabling them to "achieve well across a broad range of subjects."
- Reading is a high priority; most pupils become "confident, fluent readers by the end of Year 2" through effective phonics teaching.
- Pupils are "extremely polite and well mannered," with "very few disruptions during lessons," allowing them to focus on learning.
- Governors are "well informed" and hold leaders to account, while staff appreciate the consideration given to their "workload and well-being."
Areas to improve

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with staff trained to identify changes in pupil demeanour and leaders working well with other agencies to support vulnerable pupils.
