Darul Madinah Leicester Ltd

Overview

This is a pre-registration inspection for a proposed independent school. The report concludes that the school is "likely to meet all the independent school standards when it opens," reversing a previous judgement that it was unlikely to do so. Leaders have successfully addressed prior concerns regarding premises, safeguarding, and compliance.

Strengths

• Leaders have secured a "thorough understanding of their safeguarding responsibilities," with policies reflecting "up-to-date statutory guidance."
• The curriculum covers the breadth of the national curriculum and is supported by "suitable schemes of work" and a phonics programme.
• Premises improvements have been made, ensuring the site is secure with appropriate fire safety measures and a "fit for purpose" medical room.
• Safer recruitment processes are "secure and in line with statutory guidance," and the single central record is compliant.
• Leaders demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide a "high-quality education" underpinned by an Islamic ethos.

Areas to improve

• The school does not currently have a website; leaders intend to develop one to share information with parents if registered.
• A locked cabinet for the storage of controlled medicine is "in the process of being installed."
• Leaders intend to provide staff with further training to adapt the curriculum for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Safeguarding

The safeguarding policy reflects "up-to-date statutory guidance," and leaders have ensured that "all the necessary arrangements are in place to keep pupils safe."
