Derrychrin Primary School

Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was significantly constrained by industrial action, as teachers refused to cooperate with the inspection team. Consequently, the ETI was unable to fully evaluate the quality of learning and teaching or assure stakeholders of the education provided. The school is designated as a high priority for future inspection with no further notice.

Strengths

• Year 6 children spoke with "pride and enthusiasm" about their school, feeling "empowered as contributing members" of the community.
• Pupils appreciate opportunities to engage in a "wide range of sporting activities" and perform in shows.
• Children make their views known through the school council and are "enjoying their learning."
• Safeguarding arrangements reflect "broadly the guidance from the Department of Education."
• Children report that they "feel safe in school" and are well informed about online safety and welfare concerns.

Areas to improve

• The school needs to "keep under review the access arrangements for the year 4 and year 6 mobile classrooms, including the children’s use of the adjacent toilets."

Safeguarding

The report states that safeguarding arrangements broadly reflect Department of Education guidance and children feel safe, though the ETI was unable to fully evaluate the outworking of these arrangements due to the industrial action.
