Eagley Infant School

Overview

Eagley Infant School continues to be a good school where pupils, including those in the early years, "flourish" and feel "happy and safe." Leaders and staff are united in their ambition to provide the best start to education, with most pupils arriving "keen to learn" and behaving well. The school fosters warm relationships, effective safeguarding, and a curriculum that prepares Year 2 pupils well for their transition to junior school.

Strengths

• Pupils "share warm relationships with staff" and understand that adults will support them if they are anxious.
• The curriculum is described as "well-thought-out, ambitious and fun," with clear sequencing in many subjects.
• Staff deliver phonics effectively, ensuring pupils leave Year 2 as "confident and fluent readers."
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) have their needs identified quickly and receive suitable adaptations.
• Trustees offer leaders "support and challenge in equal measure" and undertake regular training.

Areas to improve

• Some subject leaders are new and lack the confidence or expertise to effectively check curriculum implementation and pupil retention.
• In subjects with relatively new curriculums, teachers are less sure about what to teach, which "hinders pupils’ progress."

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with staff well trained to identify subtle changes in behaviour and work with outside agencies to support vulnerable families.
