Earlview Primary School

Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, meaning teachers did not cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the ETI states it is “unable to assure” parents of the quality of education provided. The report notes that most evaluation areas could not be assessed due to this lack of cooperation.

Strengths

• Parents and staff who responded to questionnaires expressed satisfaction with the “family atmosphere” and “kind, approachable staff”.
• Year 7 children demonstrated they could “read with fluency and understanding” and spoke confidently about their enjoyment of reading.
• Children’s work is “valued and celebrated” through attractive displays and shared with parents via multi-media platforms.
• Year 6 pupils were described as “courteous” and “proud of their school”, reporting positive experiences in extra-curricular activities.
• Governors possess an “appropriate range of complementary skills” and are committed to the school.

Areas to improve

• Staff need to implement “more systematic self-evaluation processes” to inform action planning and measure progress in effecting improvement.

Safeguarding

The report states that “satisfactory arrangements for safeguarding reflect broadly the guidance issued by the relevant Departments” and children feel safe, though the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements” due to the industrial action.
