Overview

The inspection was conducted during industrial action, with staff refusing to cooperate with inspectors. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to evaluate the quality of education, stating it is “unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children.” The school is designated a “high priority for future inspection with no further notice.”

Strengths

• The school development plan is “informed by all stakeholders, including the children through their regular input to, and review of their learning.”
• Whole staff development and training is “planned for strategically.”
• Governors are “actively involved in the life and work of the nursery and are committed fully to its further development.”
• The school “actively encourages the involvement of parents” through initiatives such as “Getting Ready to Learn” and extensive training courses.
• The school has established links with local services and primary schools to support children and parents.

Areas to improve

• The ETI was unable to evaluate “the effectiveness of strategic leadership and governance.”
• The ETI was unable to evaluate “the effectiveness and impact of the leadership.”
• The ETI was unable to evaluate “the effectiveness of action to promote and sustain improvement.”

Safeguarding

The nursery provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” but the ETI was “unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements for safeguarding in the school” due to the industrial action.
