Evergreen Primary School

Overview

Evergreen Primary School is judged as ‘Good’ overall, with ‘Outstanding’ provision in the early years. Pupils are described as happy, safe, and proud of their school, benefiting from a strong sense of belonging and positive relationships with staff who know them well. The curriculum is ambitious, and attendance has improved significantly following targeted work with families.

Strengths

• Early years provision is ‘Outstanding’, with staff providing ‘high-quality learning opportunities’ that foster independence and strong communication skills.
• Pupils make ‘strong academic progress’ in mathematics, supported by teachers who ‘clarify misconceptions well’ and routinely check for understanding.
• The school has a ‘clear and structured approach’ to supporting pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), collaborating effectively with external specialists.
• Behaviour is positive, with pupils treating each other with respect and responding quickly to staff guidance within a consistent behaviour policy.
• Personal development is nurtured through themes like ‘active citizenship’, helping pupils become ‘respectful members of the community’.

Areas to improve

• The school must ensure all staff have the expertise to teach the phonics programme as intended, as current inconsistencies limit some pupils’ reading confidence and fluency.
• In some subjects, teaching does not sufficiently help pupils connect isolated facts, limiting their ‘deeper knowledge and understanding’ of subject content.

Safeguarding

The report states that ‘the arrangements for safeguarding are effective’ and that leaders ensure the safety of pupils is taken ‘very seriously’.
