Check the area around this school
39th of 40 secondary schools in Devon we can score, 41 in total — the rest without enough published data. Local and same-phase on purpose: a national table mostly measures who attends.
Narrow the comparison to the 888 schools whose pupils have similar backgrounds — a tougher field — and it places 1.3/10 among them, against 2.2/10 nationally. Both figures are results only, without the inspection grade. A lower figure here means a stronger comparison group, not a weaker school.

Each measure is read as a position among comparable schools, so a school in the middle of the country scores 5. Full method.

What Ofsted said about Exmouth Community College
Overview
Exmouth Community College is a large, split-site academy where leaders have recently reset the school’s vision and raised expectations for pupil behaviour. The report notes that while the quality of education and behaviour currently require improvement, personal development and leadership are rated as good. Inspectors observed that new systems to support these changes are beginning to have a positive effect, with staff, parents, and pupils showing positivity about the early impact of this work.
Strengths
- The curriculum is broadly planned and carefully sequenced, particularly at key stage 3, with ambitious programmes of study in the sixth form.
- Personal development is strong, supported by a well-considered personal, social and health education curriculum, including weekly lessons on relationships and well-being.
- Sixth-form provision is effective, with students receiving nurturing support and preparing well for future education through work experience and financial literacy.
- Safeguarding arrangements are effective, and pupils feel safe, knowing they can report concerns via multiple channels, including an online ‘worry’ button.
- Pupils participate in a broad range of extra-curricular activities, such as sports, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and performance groups.
Areas to improve
- Staff need support with the knowledge and expertise required to deliver the full curriculum effectively, as some pupils struggle to retain learning when implementation is weak.
- Adaptations for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) must be applied more effectively across the curriculum to ensure timely and appropriate support.
- New behaviour systems need to be consistently implemented, as some pupils still do not behave well during social times and when moving around the school.
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
