Foxfield School

Overview

Foxfield School continues to be a good school, providing effective support for pupils with a wide range of needs and difficulties. Leaders maintain high expectations, ensuring that pupils typically improve in their learning and development while enjoying positive, trusting relationships with staff. The curriculum is well-organised and focused on preparing students for adult life, with strong subject knowledge among teachers.

Strengths

• Leaders have designed a "well-organised curriculum" that closely meets the needs of all pupils, including those in the sixth form, with a logical order of learning.
• Staff provide "effective support which closely matches pupils’ needs," using specialist technology and adapting teaching to ensure understanding.
• Pupils benefit from a wide range of activities beyond formal lessons, such as swimming, choir, and sensory yoga, which support their emotional needs.
• Governors "provide challenge for school leaders" and understand their roles, while senior leaders are "thoughtful about their welfare and workload."
• Most sixth-form students go on to "suitable providers that meet their needs and strengths," often leaving with qualifications.

Areas to improve

• Leaders should ensure that teachers provide early-stage readers with books containing letters and sounds they know well, as some current books are too difficult and hinder fluency.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with "thorough and robust" systems for reporting concerns and staff receiving suitable training to identify risks.
