Girvan Primary School

Overview

Education Scotland inspectors visited Girvan Primary School in November 2022, finding that the school provides effective leadership and fosters positive relationships. The report evaluates all four quality indicators as ‘good’, noting that the school has the capacity to continue improving without further inspection visits.

Strengths

• The headteacher provides “effective leadership” supported by a senior team focused on involving staff, children, and families in school improvement.
• “Warm, positive relationships” among children and staff help pupils feel “safe, valued as individuals, and cared for.”
• Staff use data effectively to identify learning gaps, helping to “raise attainment” and “close the poverty related attainment gap in writing and numeracy.”

Areas to improve

• Develop approaches to ensure “consistently high-quality practice across all classes” and that learning is at the “right level of difficulty for all children.”
• Fully involve all children in leadership and school improvement so they understand how their views “improve the work of the school.”
• Improve planning in the Support and Wellbeing department to help children develop “individual skills to overcome difficulties in learning.”

Safeguarding

The report states that staff share a focus on wellbeing which is helping children feel “safe, valued as individuals, and cared for in the school and Support and Wellbeing Department.”
