GLAIS PRIMARY SCHOOL

Overview

Glais Primary School is described as a "warm and welcoming school with a family feel" where staff know pupils well and promote their well-being. This environment fosters "confident learners" who are keen to take on leadership roles and influence their learning, resulting in strong progress in speaking, listening, and problem-solving skills.

Strengths

• Pupils are "caring towards each other," with older pupils supporting younger ones and running clubs.
• Teachers have made "very good progress in designing and implementing a new curriculum" in line with the Curriculum for Wales.
• Lessons are described as "interesting and fun," and pupils have a "powerful voice" in the school’s organisation.
• Leaders have maintained good progress towards national priorities, such as raising the importance of reading, despite previous instability.
• New opportunities for parents to observe their children have helped them gain a "clearer understanding of the school’s work."

Areas to improve

• Ensure that teachers provide an "appropriate level of challenge for all pupils" consistently, as current activities do not always do so.
• Sharpen monitoring activities to focus more effectively on the "impact of the provision on the progress that pupils make."
• Embed personal and social education across the curriculum to ensure aspects like "online safety" are taught consistently.

Safeguarding

The report notes that ensuring staff make pupils aware of "online safety measures regularly" is currently not in place, highlighting a gap in personal and social education provision.
