Glenwood High School

Overview

Education Scotland inspectors visited Glenwood High School in December 2022 and found the school to be performing well across all four quality indicators, each evaluated as "good". The report highlights strong leadership, positive relationships, and a supportive environment, concluding that the school has the capacity to continue improving without further inspection visits.

Strengths

• The headteacher provides "a clear sense of direction" and is well supported by senior leaders, with "positive relationships and strong team working" central to improvement efforts.
• Young people are "proud of their school" and benefit from "well-structured learning opportunities" driven by staff engagement in professional learning.
• There is an "increasing range of programmes and courses" for S4 to S6 students, with "almost all young people" moving to a positive destination after leaving.
• Staff demonstrate a strong approach to the "care and welfare of all learners," supported by robust processes that create a "supportive and safe environment."

Areas to improve

• Senior leaders must continue to monitor the impact of improvement priorities to ensure developments are "firmly embedded" and achieving desired results.
• The school should increase opportunities for active engagement, ensuring tasks are set at the "right level of difficulty" so all learners make clear progress.
• Leaders need to work with staff to improve the quality of passes in National Qualifications and develop a "whole school approach to wellbeing and inclusion."

Safeguarding

The report states that staff’s approach to care and welfare is well supported by professional learning and robust processes, resulting in a "supportive and safe environment for young people's learning."
