Glenwood School

Overview

Glenwood School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection. The report describes a school where caring staff provide a warm welcome and a well-considered, highly individualised curriculum that meets pupils’ specific needs. Pupils are supported to develop communicative and social skills, preparing them well for adulthood.

Strengths

• Staff create a "calm and orderly" environment where pupils are happy and engaged in tasks matched to their needs.
• The curriculum is "highly individualised," using precise targets from education, health and care plans alongside external professional input.
• Pupils learn to communicate through various strategies, ensuring they "have a voice and take an active role in their learning."
• There is a strong focus on developing life skills, independence, and confidence through activities such as school council roles and enterprise projects.
• Staff are attentive and knowledgeable, using "timely and prompt actions" to manage emotions and sustain engagement with little disruption.

Areas to improve

• The school should improve communication strategies so that more parents understand how provision supports their child’s progress and the reasons for school decisions.
• Governors should undertake training to deepen their understanding of the curriculum, ensuring they can effectively challenge leaders on its impact and consistent delivery.
