Golden Grove CP School

Overview

The report states that many pupils “generally make good progress from their starting points” and display “positive attitudes to learning.” However, it notes that “many pupils’ Welsh literacy skills in the Welsh stream are underdeveloped” and that teaching quality is inconsistent, with expectations not always being “high enough” to challenge all pupils.

Strengths

• Pupils in the English stream demonstrate strong literacy skills, with many reading with understanding and using “rich vocabulary.”
• Most pupils show “good progress” in numeracy, effectively applying mathematical knowledge across the curriculum.
• ICT skills are used effectively to support learning, with pupils creating multimedia presentations and using data handling tools.
• The school fosters a “caring and supportive ethos,” with pupils feeling “safe, well cared for and valued.”
• Leaders have made “significant progress in improving attendance” and established strong partnerships with parents.

Areas to improve

• Raise standards of pupils’ Welsh literacy skills in the Welsh language stream.
• Ensure that all teachers have high expectations to challenge all pupils effectively.
• Improve the quality of monitoring procedures to identify areas for improvement better.

Safeguarding

The report confirms that “the school’s arrangements for safeguarding pupils meet requirements and are not a cause for concern.”
