Gorse Ride Infants' School

Overview

Gorse Ride Infants’ School is described as a “nurturing place where pupils thrive,” with children reported to be “happy, confident” and feeling “safe and well supported.” The inspection found that leaders hold “high expectations” and deliver an “engaging and ambitious curriculum” that allows pupils to flourish both academically and emotionally.

Strengths

• The school’s “rigorous approach to reading” ensures pupils learn to read “fluently and confidently,” with phonics teaching described as “exemplary.”
• Pupils demonstrate strong behaviour, responding well to “consistent classroom routines” and developing skills in “managing their own emotions.”
• The curriculum is enriched by opportunities such as clubs and school trips, with leaders ensuring “no barriers to pupils attending these.”
• Staff provide “careful adaptations” for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, enabling them to learn the same curriculum as their peers.
• Parents and carers show “overwhelming support” for the school, valuing the “strong link between home and school.”

Areas to improve

• The school must ensure staff have the skills to spot and guide pupils on weaknesses in “transcription skills,” particularly regarding “letter and number formation,” to prevent repeated mistakes from slowing writing development.
