Greasby Infant School

Overview

Greasby Infant School is described as a “caring school” where pupils are “very proud” to attend and behave exceptionally well. The report highlights that pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, “achieve well” and leave “well prepared for junior school.” Leaders provide strong support, ensuring staff feel valued and that safeguarding arrangements are effective.

Strengths

• Pupils display “exceptional” behaviour, settling quickly and acting as “excellent role models” for younger children.
• Reading is given “high priority,” with a strong phonics programme helping pupils become “accurate, fluent readers.”
• The curriculum is “carefully designed” to set out important knowledge, with staff addressing misconceptions as they arise.
• Pupils develop strong personal qualities, demonstrating “maturity beyond their years” and a “well-developed sense of right and wrong.”
• Governors offer “appropriate support and challenge,” being “especially mindful of staff’s workload and well-being.”

Areas to improve

• The school must provide more opportunities for Key Stage 1 pupils to apply their knowledge of sounds to writing, as current practices hinder some from “forming letters correctly.”
• Assessment information in one or two subjects does not provide teachers with sufficient data to ensure the curriculum is “suitably ambitious,” preventing some pupils from achieving as highly as they could.

Safeguarding

The report states that “the arrangements for safeguarding are effective.”
