Overview

This sustaining improvement inspection was significantly constrained by industrial action, as teachers refused to cooperate with the inspection team. Consequently, the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) was unable to fully evaluate the quality of education or assure stakeholders of the standards provided. The report notes that previous evaluations indicated a “high level of capacity for sustained improvement,” but current findings are limited to leadership and safeguarding evidence.

Strengths

• The school has obtained its “fourth Green Flag Award.”
• Year 3 children spoke “enthusiastically about their experiences of school life” and reported good opportunities to develop leadership capabilities.
• A new three-year development plan is underway, informed by “wide consultation with the children, staff, parents and governors.”
• Senior leadership co-operated with the inspection team regarding their leadership and safeguarding responsibilities.

Areas to improve

• The ETI was unable to evaluate the “quality of learning and teaching within the classrooms” due to staff non-cooperation.
• The inspection could not assess the school’s capacity to effect improvement through self-evaluation and effective school planning.
• The outworking of safeguarding arrangements could not be fully evaluated owing to the industrial action.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that safeguarding arrangements “reflect broadly the guidance from the Department of Education,” and children reported feeling safe and aware of online safety, though the ETI could not fully evaluate the implementation of these arrangements.
