Hamilton Grammar School

Overview

The inspection team found a “strong caring ethos” that creates a “very nurturing environment for learning,” supported by staff values of “equality, commitment, respect and inclusion.” Evaluations for “Learning, teaching and assessment” and “Raising attainment and achievement” were both judged as “good.” The report confirms the school has the capacity to continue improving, so no further visits will take place.

Strengths

• A “strong caring ethos” led by the headteacher and supported by all staff, reflecting values of “equality, commitment, respect and inclusion.”
• Support teams provide a “wide range of support” which is “beginning to have a positive impact” on numeracy, literacy, and employability skills.
• Staff have been “successful at maintaining, and at times increasing, levels of attainment in S4 and S5,” supported by effective tracking processes.

Areas to improve

• All staff should develop learning and teaching approaches for S1 to S3 to ensure “consistently high quality experiences.”
• Senior leaders must ensure a “clear overview of young people’s progress and attainment in S1 to S3” to provide necessary evidence for support.
• Staff should monitor and track skills developed through activities “outwith class.”

Safeguarding

The report does not explicitly detail safeguarding arrangements, though it notes a “very nurturing environment” and a “strong caring ethos” supported by all staff.
