Hazelmere Infant School and Nursery

Overview

Pupils enjoy attending this school, which provides a "welcoming and inclusive environment" where they feel safe and valued. While behaviour and personal development are strong, the quality of education and leadership require improvement because staff do not consistently check pupil understanding, leading to gaps in knowledge.

Strengths

• Pupils are "eager to learn" and show curiosity, supported by interesting lessons and high expectations.
• Behaviour is good, with pupils being "usually respectful" and valuing the school’s core values.
• The early years provision is good, with staff creating a warm environment and focusing on spoken vocabulary.
• Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities have their needs identified promptly and achieve well from differing starting points.
• Attendance has improved for previously persistently absent pupils due to proactive leadership support.

Areas to improve

• Staff must assess what pupils know and can do more frequently and accurately to adapt work appropriately to individual needs.
• The school must rigorously monitor curriculum implementation to ensure teachers receive sufficient knowledge and support to teach consistently well.

Safeguarding

The report states that "the arrangements for safeguarding are effective."
