Hazelwood Integrated Primary School

Overview

This monitoring inspection was conducted during industrial action involving an 'action short of strike', meaning teachers did not co-operate with inspectors. Consequently, the evaluation relied solely on documentation and discussions with the principal, preventing a full assessment of learning, teaching, or learner outcomes. The report concludes that the ETI is 'unable to assure parents/carers... of the quality of education being provided for the children'.

Strengths

• The senior leadership team has created a 'collegial approach to embedding a common understanding of effective learning and progress'.
• There is a 'strategic and systematic approach to whole school improvement founded upon the adept use of data'.
• Data is used to help children 'set targets, plot progress and celebrate their achievements'.
• The school aims to improve 'further the well-being and standards achieved by each child'.

Areas to improve

• The report states the school 'did not demonstrate if and how the actions taken have led to improvement for the learners' due to the industrial action.
• The inspection was 'unable to focus on evaluating action to promote improvement and its impact on learning and teaching'.
• The school is designated a 'high priority for future inspection with no further notice'.

Safeguarding

The school provided evidence that arrangements are 'satisfactory' and reflect departmental guidance, though the ETI was 'unable to evaluate fully the outworking of the arrangements' due to the strike action.
